Quote:Simon Cowell Warns American Idol Wannabes to be Honest About Criminal Past 1/20/06British music mogul Simon Cowell is urging American Idol wannabes to "come clean" about their criminal pasts after another scandal has blown up in producers' faces.Cowell, who is among the judges on the hit show, is tired of having to get rid of top picks when their scandalous pasts come back to haunt them. And now he faces having to axe twins Terrell and Derrell Brittenum from the competition after discovering they refused to mention a forgery, theft and financial identity fraud rap when producers asked them to disclose any legal matters on entering the competition. The twins became instant hits on Tuesday night (17JAN06) when they performed in the first show of the new American Idol season.Cowell says, "I like them, we put them through. This might be history, nothing surprises me on the show. It happens."And he wants all other contestants to reveal all when it comes to their criminal pasts - or risk immediate ejection from the show.He says, "It happens every year, so 'Come clean guys, tell us what you've done!'"The talent show's past scandals have included contestants failing to divulge criminal records for battery and theft, and one wannabe was exposed as an internet sex star.
Quote:Why Do We See So Many People Making Fools Of Themselves? Just why is it that we sit down to watch the auditions on American Idol and are forced to sit through a multitude of bad auditions and people making fools of themselves? What some people don't realize is when we see the auditioners in front of Randy, Paula and Simon, that isn't the first time they have sung for someone at American Idol. Everyone is required to first go through a screening process of two different rounds, before they are seen by the big three. The producers told everyone at an audition this year that only the really bad and really good people will get through, so if anyone thought they were not the best one there, they should leave. That leaves the people that appear on our screen in two groups. Those that really do believe they have talent, and those that know they don't. The producers know many of them aren't talented as well, but pass them on to give us that great entertainment value watching at home of someone dressed atrociously or singing absolutely terribly, and getting shot down by one of Simon's sharp comments. The auditioners that have parents crying out in the hallways, but make fools of themselves, most likely believe they do have real talent. We listen to them, Randy, Paula and Simon listen to them, and all of us know they don't have real talent. But watching their parents crying out in the hallway, we realize that they are just very disillusioned. I don't know if I would have the heart to tell my child, "You suck!" but someone has to before they do it in that type of a public forum. The people, though, that arrive in ridiculous get-ups, the Statue of Liberty, the cow costume, the mime, many of them just want to get their mugs on TV. Even Leroy Wells, he of the krunk teeth, last year asked if he could just be on TV. Paula laughed and told him, he was definitely going to be on TV. She was right.Ben Hasback, an inventor holding patents, tried out this year and brought his cosmic coaster invention with him. He talked a lot about his high intelligence, and little about his singing prowess. I am thinking he wasn't as concerned about impressing the judges with his singing, as he was trying to get his invention shown on TV.American Idol producers put the auditioners and viewers through this process all in the name of entertainment. It wouldn't be very entertaining watching auditioners with so-so talent. Who have we talked about this week? The really good like Lisa Tucker. We've talked about both sets of twins, and even more so once we found out Terrell Brittenum was in jail. We've talked about the crooner, David Radford, because he was different ... and cute. We've talked about Crystal Parizenski with the odd suntan and makeup. We've talked about the guy in the Dorothy costume. We've talked about Zach and wondered if he was a guy or a girl. We talked about the guy in the Statue of Liberty costume. We've talked about Ace Young, because he was pretty good, but not the best, and was very attractive and personable. We get what we want to watch. It's that sick part of us that slows down to watch a traffic accident that wants to watch these people with no talent get shot down. This is what makes the show a success.
