Wednesday

Today was another early day with a walk at 6:45 AM. Only one person showed up today but Bonnie and I went South from the hotel down into Chelsea and the Chelsea Hotel--former residence of many artists who donated works to the hotel and they are in the lobby.

Our first session was on the Art of Greenwich Village. It was interesting to hear about the development of Greenwich Village and the artists who lived there.

Second session was The Lenape Indians in New York and Beyond by David Oestreicher. Dr. Oestreicher has had a life long devotion to studying native peoples. It was fun to hear someone who is a scholar and so passionate about his experiences. The Lenape were on the island of Manhattan when the white man arrived. There language survived into the 20th century, however, it is dying out now. David is very good at the language and it was interesting to hear him using the native language.

We had the afternoon and evening off. I took advantage of the afternoon and got some rest and caught up on the computer. The evening was spent at New York City Opera at a production of Purcell's King Arthur. A write up is available at: King Arthur.
